Seventeen-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer announced on his website that he plans on attending the 2017 Miami Open. The two-time Miami Open champion will be making his first appearance at the tournament since 2014.
His announced schedule following the Australian Open includes the Dubai Duty Free Championships, the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open presented by Itaú.
Federer won back-to-back Miami Open titles in 2005 and 2006. His 2005 win was a five-set classic against a young Rafa Nadal who had defeated the world No. 1 the year before in the third round of the 2004 Miami Open.
Nadal, a 14-time Grand Slam champion, has also announced his intention to play the Miami Open saying in a recent interview with Tennis News that he plans to use Miami as a benchmark for his fitness level following his return from injury.
“Probably after Miami, that’s going to be a good moment to analyze what’s going on and to see where I am.”
Nadal is a four-time Miami Open finalist, last reaching the final in 2014.
