Miami Open presented by Itaú Welcomes New Champions, Record Attendance and a Brand-New Hit Concert Series in 2023

Petra Kvitova and Daniil Medvedev Crowned 2023 Singles Champions

April 3, 2023 (Miami Gardens, FL) – The Miami Open presented by Itaú welcomed a new group of champions, record attendance and a brand-new concert series in 2023.

Petra Kvitova outlasted Elena Rybakina in a tight opening set then pulled away to claim the women’s singles title Saturday with a 7-6(14) 6-2 win. The first set took more than an hour, and Kvitova saved five set points in the tie-break, which at 30 points was the longest on the WTA this season. Kvitova’s title is the 30th of her career and her ninth at a WTA 1000. Rybakina, who saw her winning streak snapped at 13 straight matches, was appearing in her 12th WTA final.

Daniil Medvedev downed Jannik Sinner 7-5 6-3 in just 94 minutes to claim the men’s singles title Sunday. A former World No. 1, Medvedev won his fourth title of the season and 19th overall. Sinner, who defeated current World No. 1 and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, was appearing in his 10th career final.

Coco Gauff & Jessica Pegula beat Leylah Fernandez & Taylor Townsend 7-6(6) 6-2 to win the women’s doubles title. After finishing 2022 as the No. 3 team on the WTA, this is their second title of this season and fourth overall.

Santiago Gonzalez & Edouard Roger-Vasselin defeated Austin Krajicek & Nicolas Mahut 7-6(4) 7-5 to claim the men’s doubles title Saturday. It is the second title of the season for Gonzalez & Roger-Vasselin as a team. This is the first Masters 1000 title and 20th overall for the 40-year-old Santiago and the 25th overall and second Masters 1000 for Roger-Vasselin.

Hard Rock Stadium also saw record attendance this year, welcoming over 386,000 guests across the two-week tournament. The event had four sessions with record attendance as well.

This year’s tournament offered entertainment like never before to its biggest group of attendees ever. “The Final Set presented by Stella Artois” concert series took place the final Friday and Saturday of the tournament, with Afro-Cuban funk artist Cimafunk bringing the Miami beats to the stage Friday night, and legendary R&B band Kool & the Gang closing out Saturday night, following the Women’s Singles Finals match. The 2023 champion, Petra Kvitova joined the band on stage for their last song, hoisting the trophy overhead as they played their hit Celebration.

Other highlights from the two weeks included many celebrity and athletes sightings including Jamie Foxx, Jon Bon Jovi, Maluma, Paul Wesley, Mike Tyson, Jimmy Butler, Luka Doncic, Duncan Robinson, Chad Ochocino, John McEnroe, Chanel Iman, Francisco Lindor, Dion Dawkins, Kaiir Elam, Lisa Leslie, D-Nice, Omari Hardwick, Manu Ginobili, Daymond John and more.
