The World’s Greatest Players Return to the Miami Open Presented by Itaú

Miami Gardens, FL (February 25, 2021) – The 2021 Miami Open presented by Itaú will once again host the world’s greatest players at Hard Rock Stadium, March 22 – April 4. A limited number of fans will have the opportunity to see tennis’ biggest stars while enjoying an exclusive experience at the event’s world-class venue.

The Miami Open announced today the player field for the 2021 tournament, which boasts 21 players with a combined 116 career Grand Slam singles titles, including ATP all-time record holders Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and WTA record holder Serena Williams. Reigning Australian Open champions Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka top one of the strongest ATP and WTA tournament draws of 2021.

Overall, each of the top 77 ranked men and 75 of the top 78 ranked women, have entered to compete in Miami.

Federer, the 2019 Miami Open champion, and Djokovic, a six-time winner in the Sunshine state, lead a men’s field that includes 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. The tournament also boasts the next generation of ATP stars including 2021 Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev, 2020 US Open Champion Dominic Thiem, 2019 ATP Finals Champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, World No. 7 Alexander Zverev and Australian star Nick Kyrgios.

The player field also includes three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, 2018 Miami Open champion John Isner and 10-time ATP tour winner Gael Monfils.

The women’s field is equally impressive.

Osaka, who is fresh off her fourth Grand Slam title in Melbourne, joins an impressive list of Grand Slam singles champions competing in Miami.

Leading the way is 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, who is looking to capture her ninth title in Miami. World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, the defending Miami Open champion, returns seeking to follow up her win in 2019.

The list of Grand Slam champions in the 2021 Miami Open player field includes 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek, 2019 Wimbledon champion Simona Halep, 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, Venus Williams, Garbiñe Muguruza, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, Sloane Stephens, Jelena Ostapenko, and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Other players to watch include Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady, 2019 Miami Open finalist Karolina Pliskova, World No. 4 and Pembroke Pines native, Sofia Kenin and American, Madison Keys.

The future stars of women’s tennis will also be on display with 19-year-old Amanda Anisimova, from Aventura, and 16-year-old Coco Gauff, from Delray Beach, in the field. Both claimed their first WTA singles titles in 2019.

Qualifying rounds will be March 22-23 and will determine 12 additional slots in each singles’ draw. The Miami Open also will award wildcards to five men and eight women. The women’s main draw begins on Tuesday, March 23, followed by the first round of the men’s main draw on Wednesday, March 24.
