“Serves, returns, everything worked well,” Nishikori said. “I tried to be aggressive and won a lot of points at the net as well.”
Nishikori displayed technical playing skills, only dropping the serve once. His Aussie opponent had not dropped a set in his first attempt at an ATP World Masters 1000 semi-final.
The men’s final will be played on Sunday against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who has won six of their eight tour level-meetings. The last time Nishikori beat the Serb was in 2014 at the US Open.
“I have nothing to lose in the final, so I hope to play another good match,” said Nishikori.
