Wendy Elkin, Senior Vice President

A life-long Miami girl who loves the ocean, sand and warm weather, Wendy began her professional career in 1984 in New York City at Kallir, Phillips and Ross Inc., a healthcare advertising agency in which she was employed for three years. Upon moving home to Miami, Wendy worked for Turkel Advertising in Coconut Grove, Miami. Amongst some of the many accounts she oversaw and won several Addy Awards, The Lipton Championships was where she met her mentor, the event’s founder Butch Buchholz. An avid junior tennis player in high school, the Lipton was a perfect place for Wendy to jump to the client side where in 1989 she became the Advertising Coordinator of what is currently known as The Miami Open. While working within such a small organization at the time, she became a do-it-all manager handling the advertising, public relations, promotions, sponsor relations, marketing, brand identity, television contracts, sales and production.

Wendy was promoted in 1997 to Director of Marketing, a title she held through 2003 when she was promoted to Sr. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. During this time, the tennis tournament known as The Lipton grew into a global entertainment property focused singularly on marketing to a world audience outside the traditional tennis arena. Many lifestyle assets were introduced to the tournament such as music, food, shopping and fashion. New marketing strategies were focused on gaining a new customer base. Ticket and sponsorship sales soared and the worldwide press called the tournament The Fifth Grand Slam.

Wendy is very involved in the community in Miami where she is a member of the University of Miami Citizens Board and was a Guardian Ad Litem for three years. The entire Elkin family is active in Breakthrough Miami, an inner-city mentoring program. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Denver, is passionate about the community and the city she calls magical.

Wendy currently lives in Coral Gables with her husband, Michael and three girls, Emily, Katie and Annie.
